Questions parents ask
Does my child need experience?
No. Every Path starts at level 101, which is built for someone who has never done it. We place your child after a free evaluation rather than guessing from a form.
How do you decide which level?
By what your child can already do, not their age. Every Path is open to ages 7 to 15, and a nine year old and a fourteen year old can sit in the same room at the same level.
Isn’t this just playing video games?
Fair question. We use the games children already care about as the doorway. In Minecraft they build Redstone circuits, which is circuit logic with a different skin on it. In Roblox they write Lua, a real programming language. Every session pairs a concept with a build, and your child has to explain what they made and why it works.
What has iCode won?
Scratch and Python awards, and robotics results including FIRST LEGO League and VEX Judges Award wins and state finals. Boston Parents Family Favorite every year from 2020 to 2026.
How long is a semester, and when does it run?
Ten sessions, one hour a week. Fall runs 28 September to 13 December 2026 and we skip Thanksgiving week. Winter and Spring follow. Each Path has its own day and time.
What does it cost?
$445 for the ten-week semester. A second Path at the same time is $375. Brothers and sisters get 5% off both. Materials are included, so there’s no kit to buy. You pay for the semester you’re in, and nothing renews on its own.
How does my child move up a level?
When the instructor thinks they are ready, and not before. There’s no test and nothing is marked. We don’t grade. No scores, no pass, no fail.
What happens on a day off school?
We run. A single day off school isn’t a day off Path. We skip Thanksgiving week, and we are closed 24 December to 7 January.
Can my child take two Paths at once?
Yes, if the times don’t clash. The second one is $375. Call the campus on 781-291-3131 and we’ll check the schedule with you.
How big are the groups?
Ten students to a room, and one instructor.
Do you run Paths at both campuses?
Yes. Wellesley and Brookline each run the full lineup, on their own days. This page is for Wellesley, and the other campus has its own schedule and its own openings.
How is a Path different from the Belt Program?
A Path is one hour a week for one semester, on one topic. The Belt Program is a ten-month year with a written report every month and a capstone project. AI Studio is one hour a week, self-paced, tuned to your child by their instructor. Plenty of families do more than one.
Still not sure?
Call us on 781-291-3131. We would rather spend ten minutes on the phone getting the placement right than have your child sit through a semester that isn’t working.
Still deciding?
Book a free evaluation. Forty-five minutes, no obligation, and your child leaves knowing which Path and which level fits.
