One ladder for every Path

Each Path is a numbered ladder. 101 assumes nothing. The top of each ladder is real work in a real language or a real toolchain.

Your child enters at the level that matches what they can do, not their age. They move across into another Path whenever they want to, and the habits carry over.

Ages 7 to 15 on every Path and every level.

Minecraft

Level 101 Creative Challenges
Every session starts with a challenge and an empty world.
Level 102 Survival Lessons
Survival mode hands your child nothing and expects them to work it out.
Level 103 Modding and Blockbench
Here your child stops playing the game as it ships and starts changing it.
Level 104 Redstone
Redstone is Minecraft’s wiring.
Level 105 Java
Minecraft itself is written in Java.

Roblox

Level 101 First worlds, first scripts
Kids learn to make Roblox games instead of just playing them.
Level 102 Roblox Studio, properly
A design class.
Level 103 Rules, scoring and playtests
This is where worlds turn into games.
Level 104 What players will pay for
How does a Roblox game make money? Students look at how game passes and in-game items work and design them into their own game.
Level 105 A full 3D game
Our most advanced Roblox class.

Python

Level 101 Your first real programs
Python is a real programming language that professionals use every day, and it makes a good first one.
Level 102 Functions, lists and your own bugs
For students who know the basics.
Level 103 Classes and objects
Object-oriented programming is how big programs stay organized.
Level 104 Games you can hand to a friend
Students design and code complete games in Python, with movement, collisions, levels and scoring.
Level 105 Into three dimensions
The top of the Python Path.

Shark Tank

Level 101 The idea and the pitch
Kids come up with a business idea, figure out who would buy it, and pitch it to a panel, Shark Tank style.
Level 102 Pricing, costs and a prototype
Students take an idea further.
Level 103 The full business plan
For experienced young entrepreneurs.

YouTube

Level 101 Storyboard, camera, edit
Kids learn to plan, film and edit their own short videos: storyboards, camera angles, cutting clips and adding sound.
Level 102 Pacing, graphics and sound
Better stories, better editing.
Level 103 Produce a whole series
Students plan and produce a series instead of a single video.

Robotics

Level 101 Motors, sensors and first builds
Kids build robots and program them to move, sense and react.
Level 102 Harder builds, longer programs
For students with some robotics behind them.
Basic VEX An introduction to VEX, the robotics system used in student competitions.
Advanced VEX For students who have used VEX before.

Scratch

Level 101 A working game, out of blocks
The starting point for kids who have never coded.
Level 102 Scoring, levels and bugs
For kids who can already make a sprite move.

Digital Arts & 3D Printing

Level 101 Posters, characters and logos
A first look at drawing and designing on a computer.
Level 102 Layers, color, and into 3D
For kids who have made a few designs already.

Web Design

Level 101 Your first web page
Kids build their first real web page.
Level 102 Styling, links and phones
For kids who have built a page before.

Where the Paths lead

Robotics leads to our competition teams: a real season, a roster and tournaments.

Python leads to contest preparation, ACSL and later USACO, where a result is something outside iCode can verify.

Time 1 hour a week 2 hours, plus 2 on a Saturday
Shape One topic, one semester Ten belts, ten months each

A Path samples one topic for a semester. The Belt Program is the ten-month spine, in a group of about six, with a written report every month. Plenty of families do both.
